This happened in 2009.
Peanut Crop. Of America was a vague company involved in processing of peanuts in Georgia.
Then it happened. An outbreak of salmonella.
Salmonella-induced food-borne disease killed 9 people and made hundreds of people ill.
After effect:
Over 3913 products from about 391 companies were recalled. Although, big brands like ConAgra’s Peter Pan and J.M. Smucker’s Jif could withstand the recall, Peanut Crop. of America went bankrupt and shut down.
Its former top executive got an imprisonment of 28 years for being found guilty of a having a role in the Salmonella outbreak.
People almost stopped eating peanut butter. The industry sales of this produce dipped by 25 per cent.
As per a statement made by the Georgia Peanut Commission at that time, peanut producers of America could lose around $1 billion between lost production and sales due to the massive recall.
