6. Young Cheeses/Non-Fat Dairy
Aged cheese is a great snack for diabetics, as the aging process removes every gram of sugar. With younger cheeses like mozzarella and low fat/non-fat dairy products however, the sugar remains – quite a lot of it actually – while there aren’t any fats to help fill you up. 1 gram of fat provides five times more energy than 1 gram of carbs. And while fats are often touted as bad for you, it’s only when consumed with sugar that you see the ill effects which characterize heart disease.
