9. Firestone Tires
This happened in 2000.
The Firestone Tire and Rubber Company of Bridgestone woke up in hell when its tires installed in Ford trucks and SUVs became responsible for over 800 injuries and 271 deaths due to accidents in the US.
Ford blamed Firestone and vice versa. Firestone had to recall 6.5 million tires. Ford recalled 13 million tires.
The complete recall cost the parent company Bridgestone $2 billion! As per Ford’s statement to its shareholders, the company bore the cost of $3 million and faced $600 million in lawsuits.
After effect:
Firestone recovered from the scandal, but its 100-year-old relationship with Ford ended forever.
